Why do I have discolored teeth?

There are many causes of discolored teeth. The most common include aging, certain medications, and the consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco, red wine, etc. During tooth formation, certain antibiotics or excessive flouride may also cause tooth discoloration.

What is Zoom! Whitening?

Zoom! Whitening is a bleaching process that lightens the enamel and dentin, two of the four major components of teeth. The whitening procedure begins with a short preparation period followed by about an hour of bleaching (a cleaning is recommended prior to the actual Zoom! Whitening session).

How does Zoom! work?

The light activated whitening gel's active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances, leaving the structure of the tooth unchanged. The Zoom! light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth, increasing the effectiveness of the Zoom! gel by 26% or more, giving an average improvement of up to eight shades.

Is the Zoom! Whitening process safe?

Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dental professional is safe. In fact, many dentists consider whitening to be one of the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any tooth whitening product, it is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

Will my Zoom! Whitening results last?

By following some simple post-whitening care instructions, your teeth should always be lighter than they were prior to your in-office whitening visit. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend that you floss and brush daily, use occasional at-home whitening touch-ups kits and adhere to your six month dental cleanings with our skilled dental hygienists, Dana and Cheryl.
